The history behind the month of December

December has always been a month of celebration. In the Northern Hemisphere, it marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. For many cultures, this was a time to give thanks for the bounty of the past year and to prepare for the hardships of the coming months. December was also a time for feasting, as people came together to enjoy rich food and drink before the onset of winter. In more recent history,

December has become associated with religious holidays such as Christmas and Hanukkah. This is a time when families come together to exchange gifts, enjoy special meals, and reflect on the year that has passed. For many people, December is a month of joy and celebration. However, it is also a reminder of the changing seasons and the cycle of life. As we say goodbye to the past year and look ahead to the future, December is a time for hope and renewal.

The birthstone of December is Turquoise, which is said to promote peace and calm. The flower of December is the Narcissus, which symbolizes hope and renewal. The star sign of December is Sagittarius, which is associated with adventure and optimism. All of these things come together to make December a month of hope and possibilities. So whatever your plans are for this month, remember to keep your head up and your heart open. Who knows what wonderful things await you?

Holidays and Observances in the month of December

The month of December is full of holidays and observances. Some of the most popular ones include:

Christmas is a religious holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated by Christians around the world and is one of the most important days in the Christian calendar. Christmas is typically celebrated with a feast, including a traditional meal of roast beef or turkey. Other common Christmas traditions include the exchange of gifts, decoration of homes and churches with festive displays, and the sharing of holiday greetings such as “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year.”

In recent years, many non-Christians have also begun to celebrate Christmas, often adopting some of the traditional customs while leaving out the religious aspects. For many people, Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends, exchanging gifts and enjoying special meals and treats. It is also a time for giving to those less fortunate, whether through donating to charities or giving gifts to needy children. Whatever its form, Christmas is a cherished annual tradition for millions of people around the world.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. It is also known as the Festival of Lights and lasts for eight days. On the first day of Hanukkah, a nine-branched menorah, or candelabra, is lit with one candle. Each night, another candle is added until all eight are burning. Hanukkah is also celebrated with games, gifts, and special foods. One traditional food is latkes, or potato pancakes. Another is sufganiyot, or jelly donuts. Hanukkah is a time for family and friends to get together and enjoy each other’s company. It is a joyous holiday that reminds us of the importance of freedom and perseverance.

Kwanzaa is a seven-day celebration that honors African-American culture and heritage. The holiday is observed from December 26th to January 1st, and it is traditionally celebrated with feasts, gift-giving, and ancestral reverence. Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, and the name comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits of the harvest.” The holiday is based on seven principles, known as the Nguzo Saba, which emphasize unity, self-determination, and collective work and responsibility. Each day of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of these principles, and celebrants often reflect on their meaning during feasts and other special events. Kwanzaa is a time to celebrate African-American history and culture, as well as to come together as a community and reaffirm our commitment to building a better future.

Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated in many countries on the day after Christmas. It is traditionally a day for giving gifts to service workers, such as maids, butchers, and bakers. In recent years, it has also become a day for exchanging gifts between friends and family. Boxing Day is also a popular time for sales and discounts at stores. The name “Boxing Day” comes from the practice of giving boxes of food and clothes to poor people on this day. The tradition is thought to have started in England in the Middle Ages. Boxing Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.

New Years Eve

New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year, and it is typically celebrated with a party. People gather together to eat, drink and be merry, and at midnight, they toast to the new year. Balloons and streamers are often used to decorate homes and public spaces, and many people stay up until midnight to watch the fireworks. While New Year’s Eve is not an official holiday, it is a time for celebration and reflection. For many people, it is a chance to set resolutions for the new year and spend time with family and friends. It is also a time to look back on the past year and to reflect on all that has happened. Whether you stay up until midnight or not, New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate the beginning of a new year

International Civil Aviation Day

December 7th is International Civil Aviation Day, a day to celebrate the role of aviation in the global community. The date was chosen to commemorate the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944. This treaty, commonly known as the Chicago Convention, established the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a UN agency that sets standards and regulations for international air travel.

International Civil Aviation Day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in aviation since the signing of the Chicago Convention and to promote cooperation between different nations. It is also a time to celebrate the role of civil aviation in connecting people and cultures around the world. In many countries, International Civil Aviation Day is marked with special events and activities, such as conferences and seminars on aviation-related topics, exhibitions of aircraft, and fly-ins for enthusiasts. Whatever the form, International Civil Aviation Day is a chance to appreciate how far aviation has come and to look forward to an even brighter future for this vital industry.

Pearl Harbor Day

Pearl Harbor Day is a national day of remembrance in the United States, observed annually on December 7th. The day marks the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, which led to America’s entry into World War II. On Pearl Harbor Day, Americans honor the brave men and women who lost their lives in the attack, as well as all those who served in the armed forces during the war. Memorial services, parades, and other special events are held across the country to pay tribute to the heroes of World War II.

In recent years, Pearl Harbor Day has also been used as a day to promote peace and international cooperation. On this day, we remember that enemies can become friends and that united, we are stronger than divided. With the world facing so many challenges today, it is more important than ever to come together and build a brighter future for all.
